The Guyana Rainbow Foundation (GuyBow) was represented by Programme Officer Tammy Edwards at the Stronger Together II Conference held in Kingston, Jamaica from May 21–23, 2026. The conference brought together LGBTQI organizations, advocates, allies, and movement leaders from across the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States under the theme, “Solidarity, Strategy and Collective Action for LGBTQI Movements.”
The conference provided a valuable opportunity for participants to explore emerging challenges and opportunities facing LGBTQI communities while strengthening regional partnerships and advancing collective action.
One of the key messages that emerged throughout the conference was the importance of collaboration. Participants emphasized that no single organization can effectively address the complex challenges facing LGBTQI communities alone. Instead, stronger and more sustainable outcomes can be achieved when organizations work together, share resources, align priorities, and support one another’s efforts.
A highlight of the conference was the presentation of findings from an eight-country survey conducted as part of the Consultancy to Develop a Long-Term Joint Advocacy and Communication Strategy for LGBTQ2IA+ Organizations Across Eight Caribbean Countries. GuyBow participated in this important consultation process, and the resulting strategy was presented during the conference. The strategy seeks to strengthen coordinated advocacy, communications, and movement-building efforts across the region.
The conference also featured discussions on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for civil society organizations. Participants explored both the opportunities and challenges associated with AI, including its use in communications, advocacy, and organizational development. Discussions also examined concerns about the environmental impact of large AI data centers and their effects on surrounding communities, while highlighting efforts to develop more environmentally sustainable and responsible AI solutions.
Another significant takeaway was the growing challenge of organizational sustainability. Participants acknowledged that funding opportunities are becoming increasingly limited, while many organizations continue to compete for the same resources. This reality reinforced the need for stronger collaboration, strategic partnerships, and collective approaches to advancing human rights and equality across the Caribbean.
The conference further highlighted the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders. GuyBow believes that emerging activists and young community leaders should be encouraged to participate in regional learning opportunities such as Stronger Together, where they can gain valuable knowledge, build networks, and contribute to the future of the movement.
Reflecting on the experience, Tammy Edwards noted that the conference agenda was rich with information, presentations, and discussions. The sharing of conference materials and presentations will help participants further review key lessons and share valuable knowledge with their organizations and communities.
The lessons learned at Stronger Together II continue to reinforce GuyBow’s commitment to partnership, collaboration, and community engagement. As organizations across the region navigate evolving challenges, the conference served as a reminder that meaningful progress is achieved when communities and organizations work together toward shared goals.
GuyBow extends its appreciation to the conference organizers and partners for creating a space that encouraged dialogue, learning, and regional solidarity. The organization looks forward to applying these lessons in its ongoing work to promote inclusion, equality, and human rights in Guyana.
Because when organizations come together with a shared purpose, we are truly stronger together.
