GuyBow and GTU Kick Off Pride Month 2026 with Movie & Mingle
Pride Month 2026 began with an evening of community, conversation and connection as the Guyana Rainbow Foundation (GuyBow), in collaboration with Guyana Trans United (GTU) and with the support of the British High Commission in Georgetown, hosted the Pride Warm-Up: Movie & Mingle on June 9, 2026.
Held at the residence of the British High Commissioner, the event brought together members of Guyana’s LGBTQ+ community, civil society representatives, allies and partners in a relaxed environment designed to encourage dialogue and strengthen relationships.
Under the spirit of “Stronger Together,” the evening featured a selection of short LGBTQ+ films that created opportunities for reflection and conversation around identity, visibility, lived experiences and the importance of community support.
The Movie & Mingle was intentionally designed to be more than a film screening. It provided a space where participants could connect with one another, exchange perspectives and have conversations about the realities facing LGBTQ+ people in Guyana.
The participation of the British High Commissioner added another important dimension to the evening. The High Commissioner engaged directly with attendees and expressed support for continued dialogue and opportunities that bring LGBTQ+ organizations, community members and allies together.
For GuyBow, partnerships of this nature are important because creating lasting change requires collaboration both within the LGBTQ+ movement and with institutions and allies willing to support inclusion and equality.
The event also demonstrated the value of informal community spaces. While formal advocacy remains important, opportunities to simply gather, talk, listen and build relationships can strengthen trust and create the foundation for deeper collaboration.
As GuyBow continues its work, particular emphasis remains on strengthening relationships across generations and different parts of the LGBTQ+ community. Pride provides an opportunity not only to celebrate progress, but also to examine how the movement can become more connected, inclusive and supportive of those who may still feel excluded or unheard.
The Pride Warm-Up marked the beginning of GuyBow’s Pride Month 2026 activities and set the tone for continued engagement throughout the month.

Pride is strengthened when we create space for one another, listen to one another and recognize that progress is greater when we move forward together.
